Although Star Wars The Last Jedi is still months away, work is underway on Episode IX, and it appears it needs another writer on the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm has hired Jack Thorne to come in and punch up the script for the final film int he new trilogy. The original treatment was done by Rian Johnson who is directing VIII, and then it was handed off to Colin Trevorrow – the director of IX – to finish with his writing partner Derek Connolly.
This doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong with the script, but a more experienced hand may have been needed to try to bring all the pieces together. Additionally, a graceful exit is needed for Leia following the untimely death of Carrie Fisher.
Star Wars Episode IX is scheduled to hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
