It looks as though Karl Urban may not be done with Judge Dredd quite yet.
Speaking this weekend at Star Trek Las Vegas 2017, Karl Urban was asked about the upcoming Judge Dredd: Mega City One television series and whether he might return to the part.
I am in discussions with them about that. I told them that if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.
Now this might sound a little squirrely, but there is a reason for the way he answered. Rumor is we may not actually see Dredd in every episode of the series. His presence will be felt for sure, but the current scuttlebutt is that the show will focus more on the city itself and the millions of stories there are in a city of this size. If you’ll excuse the pun, they would use Dredd judicially.
I loved Urban’s turn as Dredd in 2012, (in spite of one or two quibbles with it) and while I’m sure there are other actors that could carry the role, my vote is solidly behind him. He loves the source material and he actually cares about the way Dredd is portrayed. That is his leg up in all of this.
Come on folks, lets make this happen. Put Urban back in the helmet.
