What do you do when Deadpool was the highest grossing R-rated film of all time? Spin him off immediately.
Deadpool 2 is currently in production, but it’s quickly sounding as though the third appearance for the character will be in a team film. Despite the jokes in the first film about him joining the X-Men, in the comics he does eventually join X-Force, a splinter team that essentially does black ops missions.
Tapped to head up this film is Drew Goddard, who I actually think is a perfect choice. He was one of the bright stars of the Buffy/Angel writing teams, and he helped launch the Daredevil series on Netflix. He has the right sensibilities for this project.
What mutants will make up X-Force hasn’t been announced yet, but it feels as though Ryan Reynolds would be a lock for this. Cable – who is currently being played by Josh Brolin in Deadpool 2 – has also been on the team. Wolverine is unlikely, Psylocke would be a good inclusion, as would be Archangel. We’ll just have to see how this plays out, but my interest in this project just went way up.
