ABC is already in full reboot mode for next season, and this time it’s The Greatest American Hero.
According to Deadline, ABC has placed a put pilot commitment to a half-hour, single-cmaera reboot of 1981’s The Greatest American Hero. The reboot will replace the Ralph Hinkley character, played by William Katt, by a 30-year-old Indian-Aerican woman named Meera.
The series is being spearheaded by Rachna Fruchbom and Nahnatchka Khan’s Fierce Baby which is housed at 20th Century Fox.
Meera is being described as a women from Cleveland who enjoys tequila, karaoke and not much else. Then she somehow comes into contact with aliens who entrust her with the super suit. No word on if the instruction manual will get lost as it was in the original series.
A put commitment means that ABC has committed to not only ordering the pilot, that it will air in some form on the network. If the network does not air it there is usually some form of financial compensation paid to the producers.
Well… looks like reboot mania is going to continue for some time to come.
