It seems we’re going to have to wait a bit longer for Fast & Furious 9 than we originally thought.
Originally scheduled for April 19, 2019, it was revealed on Wednesday that Fast & Furious 9 will now launch on April 10, 2020.
This is a bit of a surprise as The Fate of the Furious took in $1.23B globally earlier this year. You would think that Universal would want to get the follow-up out the door as fast as possible, but something is clearly holding things up.
Additionally, a tenth film was already scheduled for April 2, 2021, so you have to imagine that is going to be pushed back as well.
The cast for the ninth installment may be a bit up in the air at the moment. While Vin Diesel is sure to be back, Michelle Rodriguez has been rather vocal as of late about her issues with the gender parity in the series. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham may be getting their own spinoff which would keep them busy.
In short, this franchise is too big to stop, but it does feel like things are in a bit of a flux at the moment.
