Heat in Japan on any summer day is bad, so this must really be something. twitter.com/abcnews/status…
Setting up to work on his second Star Wars film, it appears that J.J. Abrams has plans to do something we haven’t seen before.
The biggest complaint you hear about The Force Awakens is how it mimics A New Hope. While not a one-for-one, you can definitely see it, and it seems Abrams gets that criticism. Speaking with the BBC, Abrams hinted at his plans for the final film of the current trilogy.
Well, it’s certainly something that I’m aware of now working on Episode IX – coming back into this world after having done Episode VII. I feel like we need to approach this with the same excitement that we had when we were kids, loving what these movies were. And at the same time, we have to take them places that they haven’t gone, and that’s sort of our responsibility. It’s a strange thing – Michael [Giacchino, composer] worked on things like Planet of the Apes and Star Trek and Star Wars, and these are the things of dreams. Yet we can’t just revel in that; we have to go elsewhere.
What does he have planned? Not a clue. I’ve just been hoping it wouldn’t be a retread of Return of the Jedi, and it certainly sounds like it won’t be. Lets just avoid anything like Ewoks… and super weapons. Enough with the super weapons. Lets just wrap this whole thing up and let whatever comes next go nuts.
Episode IX is currently targeting a Dec. 2019 release.
