In a bit of a surprise move, the upcoming Sabrina series won’t be appearing alongside Riverdale.
Back in September it was announced that the team behind Riverdale would be shooting a pilot for a series to be called The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Well, it seems that isn’t happening any more… because Netflix stepped in.
According to Deadline, Netflix has picked up the series with a straight-to-series order for two 10-episode seasons. This is believed to be happening due to the success of Riverdale on the streaming service. It will also allow Warner Bros. to retain full ownership of the series as anything aired on The CW has to be shared with CBS as the two studios co-own the network.
As of right now it appears the project is dropping the title just down to Sabrina, but we’ll see what happens once it hits the service. This also probably kills any hope of the two series crossing over, but you never know in this brave new world of different networks and streaming services.
Lets face it, kids… Netflix is going to own our souls some day. And I think I’m okay with that.
