After five miserable Transformers film, perhaps someone is finally going to get it right.
Michael Bay is only serving as a producer on the Transformers spinoff film, Bumblebee. Thank goodness. Travis Knight (Kubo and the Treo Strings) is directing this film, and… the first image gives me some hope.
Why does this picture give me hope? Bumblebee is a VW Bug as he always should have been. This is the Bumblebee fans have always wanted to see. From some leaked set images, it looks like he has this form the entire movie, and that fills me with joy.
Now, what about the story?
Collider recently spoke with Hailee Steinfeld about her role in the film.
It takes place in the 80s, of course. And it’s very character and storyline driven, which is a bit different, but it still has the elements that Transformers fans love and will see in the movie… I play a character named Charlie Watson, who is a mechanic. She’s in high school. [She’s] incredibly unique and strong and has – something I love about her is that a lot of people tend to underestimate her knowledge and she continuously proves herself and what she knows and creates this incredible relationship with this Transformer.
Focus on Bumblebee, not the humans. We’ll see if that’s what happens, but I’m hopeful.
Bumblebee hits theaters on December 21, 2018.
