Oscar Nominations 2018 – An analysis

The Oscar nominations are upon us. Did they get it right? Did they get it wrong? Lets find out.

It is all The Shape of Water. The critical hit scored the most nominations with 13.

As much as I would like to fully analyze these nominations – and despite having seen a lot of films this year – as per usual the nominations went heavy into films that didn’t always play to the widest audiences (i.e. in my town).

Best Picture

Get Out was a surprise here. I think it’s going to go to The Shape of Water, however.

Best Actor

Oh boy… this one is rough. Daniel Day-Lewis is retiring, I think it’s going to go to him based on that.

Best Actress

This is a tough race here, but I think it’s going to go to Sally Hawkins.

Best Supporting Actor

This is another rough one, but I’m thinking Sam Rockwell will take home the Oscar.

Best Supporting Actress

Allison Janney. Everyone in this category did awesome jobs, but Janney is brilliant.

Best Adapted Screenplay

Could Logan take it? I think it will be Call Me by Your Name, though.

Best Original Screenplay

The Big Sick deserves it, but the competition is rough here.

Best Directing

At long last… del Toro.

Best Animated Feature Film

The Boss Baby is one of the worst films I’ve seen in ages. Coco.
