RT @VancityReynolds: Feels like the first day of ‘Pool. https://t.co/QVy8fCxgqr
Toy Fair 2017 was a success for TechnoBuffalo, and that means that I’m heading back for another round of walking the floor of the Javits Center.
As you read this I’m about to head to the airport and start making my way to New York for a week. First a couple days of meetings, then the show, and then a few more days of meetings. My only concern this year, of course, is the flu that is ravaging the country. Fingers crossed I can avoid it, but I’m pretty confident I will. (knock on wood)
This should prove to be an interesting year for the industry. Toys R’ Us is currently closing some locations in the U.S. and is exploring a potential sale of the U.K. branches. Rumors have been circulating for months that Hasbro is once again testing the waters of purchasing Mattel which would be the biggest merger in the history of the industry. This seems unlikely to occur, but even the rumor is sure to cast a shadow over the show.
And, oddly, at least one major company is not attending. Bandai informed me they wouldn’t have a booth on the floor this year, and that puzzles me greatly.
All told I have 19 confirmed appointments and three “drop ins” as time permits, so it’s going to be a busy show for me, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You can check out all of my Toy Fair coverage on TechnoBuffalo. It is sure to be an interesting year, and one where my legs are again in pain by the end.
