The U.S. didn’t seem to care that much about returning to the Pacific Rim, but the rest of the world sure did.
Pacific Rim Uprising opened with a pretty modest $28M this weekend to take the top spot at the box office this weekend. Not a problem, however, despite the $150M budget as the film took in $122.5M in the foreign markets for a global haul of $150.5M. Of course this doesn’t mean it has hit profit yet, but it probably will.
Second place went to Black Panther with $16.65M. Domestically it sits now at $630.91M and globally has hit $1.237B globally.
I Can Only Imagine took third place with $13.83M for a new total of $38.31M off of a $7M budget.
Fourth place went to Sherlock Gnomes with $10.6M off of a $59M budget.
Tomb Raider rounded out the top five falling 55.9% to take in $10.43M domestically, which brings it’s U.S. total to $41.74M and a global total of $211.74M off of a $94M budget.
The major releases this week are Ready Player One and Acrimony.
