RT @TechnoBuffalo: We've been working on [REDACTED] all day today and we can't wait to reveal this [REDACTED] to you on [REDACTED]
The Jared Leto Joker looks to be getting its own movie, because that is exactly what no one has asked for. It is now official that Warner Brothers has no clue what it is doing.
This should come as no surprise to anyone that has been following the DC movies that Warner Brothers is clueless as to how to handle all of this. We’ve heard that there is a Joker movie in the works not associated with anything. We’ve heard about an endless stream of possible other DC movies. And now Variety is reporting that the Jared Leto Joker is being set up for his own film. Not only will Leto return to the role, but he will also serve as an executive producer.
It almost feels like WB is setting up a Suicide Squad universe at this point rather than the DC Extended Universe. Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is also due to appear in her own film in the near future.
Suicide Squad wasn’t horrible. It wasn’t great, but it also wasn’t horrible. One of the worst parts, though was the Jared Leto Joker. It was unlike any Joker we had ever seen, and while that can be a good thing, this one wasn’t. He was a gang lord? He was a guy who could sit still for elaborate tattoos? This is nothing like the amazing character the Joker is, and it just wasn’t enjoyable to watch this version.
The idea of a whole movie centered on this incarnation of the Joker just sounds painful to me.
The Joker, for better or worse, can not function without the theat of the Batman coming along. They are two sides of the same psychosis and they need each other to complete the picture. Batman can operate without the Joker, but not the other way around.
Add in that Warner Brothers wants there to be an ability for multiple actors to play the same role at any time without them being connected to one another and I’m out. You grab the average moviegoer after these movies are released and see if they get the difference. My guess is they won’t.
