Following on the news that Star Trek: Discovery has changed showrunners again, CBS seems to have big plans. And it may even mean the return of a fan favorite.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has signed a new $25M deal extension with Alex Kertzman. This new deal will also see Kurtzman developing new Star Trek series with one source even saying that there is a chance Patrick Stewart may return to the role of Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek The Next Generation.
Before we get too excited, Kurtzman’s deal covers ongoing series, mini-series, and even animation. Something tells me animation would be the way for Stewart. Bless the man, he looks terrific, but he is 77-years-old. The rigors of an hour-long weekly seem unlikely for him.
With Comic-Con right around the corner, we may hear more news there, but I’m going to guess it will be a while before more information is released.
