It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, but it appears that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on hold.
According to sources speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, crew assembling in Atlanta for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 pre-production have been released. This means they are free to seek other work, and that means that no one knows when the film will be happening now.
This isn’t much of a surprise since James Gunn has been fired. You can’t go into pre-production on a film like this without a director in place and ready to go. They may make major changes and you’ve built sets for a now dead scene.
Marvel Studios is said to be seeking a new director, but that could be a fairly lengthy process. And then they will need to convince the cast to work well with whomever it is.
Marvel is in a bad spot, and it’s going to be interesting to watch how it resolves this.
