Watching my second Fyre Festival documentary of the week… this… it gets weirder with every minute of footage I watch.
Ultraman is coming back to the U.S. and other international territories thanks to a new development deal.
29 movies and who knows how many TV series, animes, video games, and mangas later, Ultraman is still going strong in Japan since his introduction in 1966. There have been a few attempts to import the concept to the U.S., but none of them ever took hold. With success of Power Rangers you would have thought Ultraman would have been an easy success here, but it never happened.
Now Tuburaya Productions has struck a deal with Stralight Runner Entertainment to find a home for a new Ultraman series. Apparently, the idea is to look towards some form of digital series specifically as there are so many outlets. This will then turn into licensing and merchandising programs for outside of Japan.
As much as I love Japan and its culture… Ultraman has always been lost on me. I have no clue why when I love things like Power Rangers, or Kamen Rider, but Ultraman just makes me go, “Huh… not doing it for me…” Maybe this time can be different, but I’m not going to hold my breath.
