Living Life Under Embargoes

Have you ever wondered how press outlets all know to release a piece of news at the exact same moment? Welcome to the wonderful world of embargoes.

As I’ve gotten deeper and deeper into the world of entertainment coverage, I live with way more embargoes than I ever have before. Sometime’s it’s a blessing and a curse.

It’s a blessing in that I get to work on my stuff at my own pace in most cases, and I’m not racing something out so as not to be beat. We all agree, “This is when this will happen, and if I go early, I pay a huge penalty in I won’t be trusted again.” I also obey embargoes as best I can. It’s just part of the industries these days.

Then there is the curse, however. I don’t want to say what it was, but I was just under an embargo for 3 months. I had seen the finished product already, and then teasers came out and that’s where it gets tricky. I have to talk about said teases without giving away too much as I’ve already seen what it is.

For someone who loves to discuss entertainment, seeing things early is sometimes way more painful than you think it might be. I want to blab. I want to discuss.

I can’t.

I will always obey any embargo I agree to, but somedays…
