Warner Bros. Rethinks its Approach to DC Films

It seems that Warner Bros. may have finally realized you need to learn how to walk before you can run.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. film chief Toby Emmerich said some interesting stuff about the DCEU.

What does the success of Aquaman mean for the DC Universe?

We all feel like we’ve turned a corner now. We’re playing by the DC playbook, which is very different than the Marvel playbook. We are far less focused on a shared universe. We take it one movie at a time. Each movie is its own equation and own creative entity. If you had to say one thing about us, it’s that it always has to be about the directors.

Do I think the films are still connected? Yes. Do I think we’ll see some cameos still? Sure, maybe. Do I think we’ll see another big crossover like Justice League? Someday, but not any time soon.

I’m fine with all this. DC has such rich characters and hardly any of them have been allowed to grow. It’s about time that happened. Stop worrying about the universe and just give us good stories.
