In the most amusing turn of events, The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien earned four nominations, while Jay Leno earned none for his primetime disaster or his return to The Tonight Show.

Overall the big winner this year is HBO with 101 nominations, but that still ranks as only its third highest year for nods.

Nominations are behind the “Continue Reading” link, and my apologies to those of you right now reading via RSS …

NBC’s ban on Conan O’Brien doing television interviews has come to an end, and 60 Minutes wasted no time being the first one in line to interview him.

Despite some saying that he came off as an “oversensitive prima donna whining about losing a show he seems to treat like a sacred birthright,” Mr. O’Brien’s interview laid out how he felt about the whole matter, although he had to measure his words some what as there is a clause in his agreement that says he may not “disparage” the network or Jay Leno, he still got his points across.  I would imagine a lot of these answers were practiced with his lawyer before hand, and can you really blame him?

The interview is embedded below (sorry, USA viewers only)  and you can see some outtakes here.  There will always be naysayers, but personally I felt he came off as a guy who got very publicly sold short, lied about and not having his boss live up to their promises.  ”Prima donna?”  Sorry, I didn’t see a bit of that, but what do I know.

Anyway, here’s the video, I feel it’s very worth watching if you’ve followed this debacle in the least little bit.

Remember how the bad ratings on The Tonight Show were all Conan O’Brien’s fault? Who do you blame it on when he is no longer there?

After seven weeks back on The Tonight Show, Jay Leno’s ratings in the most important demographic, 18 to 49-year-old males, slipped below those of Conan O’Brien.  For the week ending April 16th, Mr. Leno’s ratings in that demographic fell to 1.0, while Conan O’Brien’s ratings in that demo never slipped below 1.1.

What makes this even more amusing is that Leno has stronger lead in programming than O’Brien had, and even more insulting, David Letterman was in reruns all last week.  Yes, he beat Letterman who had a .83 in that demo, but it was reruns for crying out loud, Leno should have been much further ahead.

The overall ratings for the show are up, but the audience is skewing higher than advertisers like to see.

So, tell me NBC, still happy with your decision?

writingDown to 49 this week, but I’m already knee deep in next week.  One bonus to a lower count, though?  I actually made it out to see a movie … hey, why did everyone faint?

Twitter was definitely the story of the day (look at that!  We actually got to do a show!  Thank you, Talkshoe!), and for once it wasn’t just all hyperbole!  Lots of new features coming out including the kind of awesome @anywhere service that integrates Twitter … well … anywhere.  Don’t believe me, hover over @stevenhodson or @seanpaune and see what I mean.

I rant about Conan O’Brien and The Streamy Awards.  I’m not sure where online video producers have gotten this over-exaggerated opinion of their importance, or the idea they are ready to match basic cable channels, but … well, just listen in.

And apparently Steven was a charter member of the Steven Segal fan club …

It’s official, Conan O’Brien is coming back to the late night talk show scene, but at a location no one expected.

It was announced today that Conan O’Brien will launch a new show on cable channel TBS this November. The new show will run Monday thru Thursday at 11 EST/10 CST, and it will push the George Lopez talk show, Lopez Tonight, back by one hour.

Although the majority of the reason Mr. O’Brien left NBC was due to The Tonight Show being moved back an hour, apparently Mr. Lopez is all for it, and even went so far as to call O’Brien last week to ask him to join the basic cable channel.  ”I can’t think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in,” Lopez said in a statement. “It’s the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy.”

According to Nikki Finke, although TBS was never mentioned by the press as a possibility, they have been wooing him since the beginning.  It was George Lopez’s personal phone call last week that pushed to him finally sign with the cable channel.  The most surprising twist is that the untitled new show will have the same budget as The Tonight Show did, and will also give Mr. O’Brien a lot more creative freedom now that he is freed of network constraints.

“For decades, late-night TV has been dominated by broadcast television,”  Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, said. “Now, with a young audience and a growing late-night lineup, TBS is set to be the choice of comedy fans for years to come.”

The rumors had all pointed to Fox being the front runner, but apparently the affiliates weren’t thrilled with the idea of giving up their lucrative syndication shows such as The Office and the pending 30 Rock.  There was also some talks with Microsoft about doing a show on the Xbox Live system, but that never came to fruition.

The timing is of course perfection as Mr. O’Brien’s “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour” kicks off tonight in Eugene, OR., providing him with the perfect platform to promote his new show without violating his agreement with NBC.

It seems that Conan O’Brien and the Fox network are talking again, and a curious hole in Mr. O’Brien’s upcoming comedy tour could offer a tantalizing hint that he is very open to the network’s offers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the producers of American Idol, 19 Entertainment, want Conan O’Brien to appear on the April 21st special, “Idol Gives Back”, but NBC is holding on the TV appearance moratorium that keeps him from even doing interviews until May 1st.  While the offer did not come from Fox itself, it does seem to indicate that the network is talking with the talk show host again about him possibly coming to their network when he can launch another show on Sept. 1st.

“The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour” does have an odd “off night” on May 17th, which happens to be the date of the Fox upfront presentation where the network will announce its slate of shows for the upcoming fall season.  It’s one of only a handful off nights Mr. O’Brien has on his tour between April 12th and June 14th.  It may be pure coincidence, but it would allow him to appear at the press conference.

Apparently talks had cooled two weeks ago, but they are said to be ongoing again to work out a deal.  If a deal can be struck by April 12th, when the tour begins, it could be turned into a giant promotional vehicle for his new show.
