Thank you to every one who called/commented/emailed me to ask how Winston was and to offer advice on how to take care of him. It meant a lot. I won’t lie, I love all three of them, but Winston leads in the favorites by a nose, I have no clue why.
Just to update everyone, his last vomiting was around 7 PM CST on Wednesday night, and per vet’s instructions, I kept him off food and water until this morning, and then it was just small amounts. He’s been a bit lethargic today, but with bursts of energy. Right now he is wrestling with Teddy and Patrick and he instigated it, so I take that as a good sign. I will be bringing him back to full food and water on Friday, but while being monitored.
The stress of last night was added to by an ice storm and my being the only one home. So taking them out was an adventure as I had to do it on leads because their usual place is the backyard and that involves going down a flight of wooden stairs. Patrick got out there once while I was checking it and, yep, he flew down the stairs. (he’s fine)
I have stuff I want to blog about, but just can’t be bothered tonight. Winston isn’t feeling well and has, thus far, vomited 10 times. I have talked to the vet, and I am following his suggestions (no food or water tonight, maybe some Pepto Bismal if it continues. Add on top of that we’re having an ice/snow storm, it’s just not a very “blogging” type evening.
So…for 30 years we had buff (blonde) dogs in our lives. First there was Polly, a cockapeekapoopom (i.e. mutt), we lost her after 18 years, when I was 20. Three weeks later we got Beau and had him until May 11th of this year. While we love Patrick and Winston with all our hearts, we still were missing the buff color. Enter Stephanie at Classy Country Cockers. We found her through Laura at TLD Cocker Spaniels, where we got Patrick and Winston. She recently had a litter that was a mix of buffs and blacks and…well…long story short, there was one lone little buff boy left who needed a home and….meet Theodore Roosevelt.
He will be joining our family next week, either Tuesday or Wednesday. I have laid down the law, THERE WILL NOT BE A NUMBER FOUR! (I hope)
This is Patricks favorite way to sleep.
Looks uncomfortable to me.
I know some people don’t like crates, but when you
are the only one home, and you need a shower, you have to.
They now have a bigger one, but Patrick under the mattress
killed me.
He seemed perfectly content…
Until Winston decided he was alone in the crate and layed on him.
I have no clue why they have adopted this plastic tub lid as a bed
Saturday was a full day for the puppies and they had their first encounter with a non-Cocker Spaniel dog. My mother’s brother was visiting grandma, and, as always, he brought his Doberman Pincher, Chico, with him. I was out back with Winston and Patrick, everything was going swimmingly, when suddenly Chico showed up and stood outside their fence. Winston barked wildly, and Patrick…let out a sound I am not sure can be put in to words. Chico let out a small bark, but then got scared off by my guys.
All was fine, no one got bit, but Patrick was massively traumatized by the whole thing. After I brought them in the house he continued to bark for a half-hour, sure Chico was still out there. I took them back out, he saw no one was there, and he still randomly barked all night. I thought I had him broken of it until he saw his reflection in the fire place doors. He went off all over again. Poor little guy.
The funniest bit was how Winston would just watch him and once in awhile would look at me with an expression of “What in the world is he going on about?” It wa snice to see though that Winston is very, very caring of Patrick and walked over to him several times to try to comfort him. (licking his face, pressing his body against him)
The boys are making progress finally. Patrick has been “asking” to go out for a few days now, which means running back and forth rapidly while whimpering. When he does this though it means “Get him out…NOW!”, he doesn’t give you much warning! Tonight Winston joined in though, so we are well on our way to housebreaking them it looks like. They have also learned to climb the stairs on the deck, so we are puppyfying the deck so they will be able to come up whenever they are ready. Now if we could just get them to stop beating the heck out of each other!
With all the talk of my puppies, I thought I should mention if any of you are looking for puppies, please feel free to contact TLD Cocker Spaniels, and tell Laura I sent you! She has some ready to go puppies from a friend of hers, 1 brother of Patrick and Winston is still around and she has some pups who will be ready in several weeks. Someone please get the brother of Patrick and Winston so I stop feeling bad about him still being there!
