Yahoo! News – Kan. Police Make Arrest in BTK Killings

Anyone who knows me knows that I am fascinated by serial killers. I don’t want to be one, don’t think they are great guys, I just find the psychology amazing.

BTK though…this guy doesn’t fit the traditional mold. He almost seems to have desired the public attention. From the above linked article:

Another letter to the newspaper also underscored BTK’s need for recognition.

“How about some name for me, its time: 7 down and many more to go,” it read in part. “I like the following. How about you? ‘THE B.T.K STRANGLER, ‘WICHITA STRANGLER’, ‘POETIC STRANGLER’, ‘THE BONDAGE STRANGER’ OR ‘PSYCHO’, ‘THE WICHITA HANGMAN’, ‘THE WICHITA EXECUTIONER,’ ‘THE GAROTE PHATHOM’, ‘THE ASPHYXIATER’.”

That is HIGHLY unusual. Typically serial killers may enjoy taunting the police, but looking for national attention? Highly odd.

If this does turn out to be him, I will be very interested in the studies done on him.

Figures.com – New York Toy Fair 2005 – Powered by PhotoPost

Not a huge fan of this site, but I do like seeing what is going on at Toy Fair. Back in my writing days I went to TF 1992 – 1998….I miss it.

Sadly I don’t have a lot to say right now, but I did promise myself I would make some sort of entry everyday. I’m researching CMS programs like Mambo to see if they will work for my company website. Working my way through the AFI Top 100 Films of the 20th Century (tonight is An American In Paris). Stressing over some things with the new company, that will hopefully work themselves out.

But alas, nothing that exciting to write about tonight! See you all tomorrow!

About four months ago I watched Super Size Me, the documentry by Morgan Spurlock about the nature of fast food. While not the perfect example of a documentry, it still spoke to me.

Anyone who knows me knows I have always been overweight. I don’t enjoy it, I never have, and I have been working hard to drop some of my weight. Super Size Me finally made me decide it was time to completly drop fast food from my diet. I went completly cold turkey and dropped everything. I even switched off of my beloved Classic Coke and went strictly Diet A&W (I couldn’t give up sodas completly). I have felt better, lost two pants sizes so far and am exercising every single day.

Tomorrow is D-Day for my new company. One of my two partners is going to a meeting that will determine the final fate of our first license. We have sunk a lot of time, love and money into devoloping these first products, and hopefully they will give the thumbs-up to everything.

Talk about nerve racking though. I have 110% trust in this partner of mine and his abilities, but it feels awfully weird to have a meeting happening that will effect your life like this, and you aren’t even going to be there!

So about 24 more hours of nail-biting!

Wow, this is exciting. Apparently all of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein’s notes from their Watergate stories are going on display to the public for the first time to the public. (sans the identity of Deep Throat of course)

As some of you know, I did spend some time as a magazine writer. Now mind you, I have *no* dellusions that my pieces were nothing more than fluff, but I loved it. I always wanted to get into more serious journalism, but it just never came to be. I think though that anyone that has done any form of journalism has thought about what Woodward and Bernstein did.

I don’t know how many times I have watched All The Presidents Men, but it never gets old. The idea that reporters, not even out of their 20’s, could bring down the most important man in the free world is just mind boggling. The idea they did it with nothing more than typewriters….wow.

This exhibit should be a mandatory visit for all future journalists.

Still being sick (which is getting really old, really fast) has made me contemplate the nature of sleep. Dictionary.com defines sleep as:

A natural periodic state of rest for the mind and body, in which the eyes usually close and consciousness is completely or partially lost, so that there is a decrease in bodily movement and responsiveness to external stimuli. During sleep the brain in humans and other mammals undergoes a characteristic cycle of brain-wave activity that includes intervals of dreaming.

It just seems weird to me that the act of “sleeping”, or “lying still”, causes are body to do anything. The fact that sleep supposedly makes you heal faster. Why? Because I am lying still? Because I have cut off “outside stimuli”?

I mean I know it works, but why does it work? What is is about closing your eyes, and essentially shutting down your brain, makes your body go “Oh, this feels good and I shall now work on fixing your body for you.”

Makes no sense to me.

Ever spent money on something and instantly regretted it? And there is no way to get a refund. Yep…love those instances.

Oh…and my cold is even worse!
