Scattercast is 50… whoa.

I can’t believe this is episode 50, and also technically my one year anniversary since I skipped two episodes due to voice problems. Since it is such a special occasion I decided to bring in… you guessed it… M. The ever mysterious female known simply as M to my readers and listeners is back for her third episode of Scattercast. So not only do you get a longer than usual episode… and not only do you get M… but you also get the introduction of my new theme song! I actually bought the rights to use this music, so… you’re stuck with it!

- Michael Jackson died… and the media will NOT let us forget it.

- Helen Thomas calls Obama administration out on social media smokescreen.

- What does Perez Hilton’s traffic numbers say about America?

- Are you even aware of what is going on in Ft. Worth? Probably not.

- M makes fun of me… big surprise.

Here is to another 50 episodes! Thanks to everyone who tunes in each week!

cbslogosmallCobWEBs episode 8 is in the can!

This week Steven Hodson, Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins and myself took on, a full load of subjects, and got in a good amount of Gillmor’ing.

- It just wouldn’t be an episode of CobWEBs if we didn’t discuss Twitter, and this week it was all about how the popular site was all over the Iran election.

- Mark named the second Dickwad of the Week.

- Is New Media finally replacing Heritage Media?  Not all of the Cynical Bastards agreed on this subject!

- Opera Unite is freakin’ stupid… this we could all agree on.

- Germany wants to ban all violent video games.

- Someone wants to sue over hotlinking images… say what?

Push the big green button and have a listen.

Scattercast is 48… and it seems I messed up last week!

As I was prepping this episode I discovered I messed up the filed last week. You may want to go and give Scattercast episode 47 another listen to hear the correct file this time.

- Talkshoe sucks… you’ll hear why.

- I may change the day I record these episodes, but it shouldn’t effect when you hear them.

- Can we just stop caring about Jon & Kate Gosselin already? Yes, it looks like they may be getting divorced, but will someone please think about what their eight kids will face in the future from this whole thing being documented?

- Bozeman, MT wants your passwords if you want to work there.

- Are you ready for war with North Korea? It may happen.

Scattercast is 47… and it doesn’t want to hear your sassin’!

- The iPhone 3G S is coming out this month… let the whining of the owners of iPhone 3G units commence!

- StumbleUpon is REALLY freaking me out this week.

- Some brief talk about about cartoons.

- It looks like all systems are go for me taking my first vacation in 13 years this coming August… but I’m not giving a lot of details for fear of jinxing myself.

cbslogosmallCobWEBs episode 7 is in the can!

This week Steven Hodson, Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins and myself took on, as usual, a lot of subjects.

- Jerimiah Owyang took his being called a “dickwad” last week really well… seriously, he did!  So, in his honor, please vote for the new weekly “Dickwad of the Week“.

- Michael Arrington and Leo Laporte had a small dust up last weekend and we spend a great deal of tiem weighing in on it.

- Gamers are really, really angry with Valve, but do they have all the facts?

- Web 2.0 becomes a word… ick.

- People write a LOT about Twitter… please stop.

- Is the real-time Web going places we don’t want it to?  Is it causing flash mobs?  Where is the filter in people’s heads?

It was a lengthy episode, but good.

Sanyo VPC-FH1 HDI’m one step closer to launching a video show.

I’ve been promising for some time that I would launch a video counterpart to my audio podcast, Scattercast.  Well, after many so-so test results with webcams, I decided to just chuck that whole angle and I bought an actual digital video camera as an early birthday present to myself.  I got a Sanyo VPC-FH1 HD, and, as the name implies, it does indeed shoot in high definiton.  It actually goes all the way up to 1080p, so the video quality is insanely clear.

It’s been a long time since I played around with a video camera, and I have to say I am blown away with what all this thing can do.  The fact I can stitch together multiple clips inside the camera itself just blows me away.  You can also edit out frames, color correct, rotate, just all sorts of things that impress the heck out of me for a device this small.  I mean, honestly, I can almost completely conceal this camera with my hand.  True, I have huge hands seeing as I’m 6′4″, but that is still a seriously small video camera!

gorillapod-slrSo the show should be coming soonish, but there are three things left to do before I start shooting the show:

  • I’m waiting on my Gorillapod SLR tripod to arrive (pictured to the right).  This will allow me to set up the camera pretty much anywhere I want as the legs are bendable.
  • Need to set up a space in which to record.
  • Need to set up proper lighting so I don’t have so many shadows aross my face.

As for what exactly the video show is going to be about… who knows.  This is part of the reason I am just continuing the name “Scattercast” from the audio show because I am sure the video will be just as random.  The most exciting things will probably be you can SEE me drink coffee as opposed to me randomly saying “Coffee sip…” during the audio show.  You’ll also get to see just how much I use my hands while I talk.  That should be… fun.

All in all I’m excited to get this up and running, and, hey, it isn’t like I had 500 other projects to keep me going at all times, so why shouldn’t I add yet another?

Keep an eye on the site for when I finally launch the show in the coming weeks.

cbslogosmallCobWEBs episode 6 is in the can! (and yes, we know episode 5 is missing in action… blame tech problems)

This week Steven Hodson, Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins and myself took on, as usual, a lot of subjects.

- Tweetdeck wants $50K to feature your app… inside their app… it’s like some sort of chicken/egg thing.

- The Twiiter-based game Spymaster annoyed Steven… Mark and I played it with glee.

- Jeremiah Owyang really made an annoyance of himself.  You’ll have to listen to the podcast to learn why.

- People are investing in lawsuits, and that just feels weird.

- Digg got a stupid idea that people want to vote on their ads.  Say what?

- Project Natal and Bing made for a full week at Microsoft.

- We actually talk nicely about Drew Olanoff being diagnosed with cancer, and we wish him all the best in his battle with it.

As always, I make a joke about Canada… and Steven has no clue how to gracefully change subjects.

Scattercast is 46… and it misses “the good old days”.

- There are a lot of really painful movie ideas coming down the road at us. Whatever happened to a movie being made just for the sake of a movie, and not the potential for sequels?

- Why I think of podcasting like everyone having a license to be their own radio DJ in some really odd way.

- Project Natal excites and scares me all at once.

Not a ton of subjects this week, but I still get past the 1/2 hour mark with this episode. Hope you all have a good week… hoping to announce some stuff in the next week or two!

Scattercast is 45… and it’s turning in to an old yelling guy.

- Okay, so I work too much, I admit it. Oh well.

- Walmart is changing their stores, and it may end up damaging one industry quite a bit. How did we let one retailer have this much power?

- The new Buffy movie is really worrying me.

- The teacher sex scandals just get dumber and dumber, and it makes me worry about this country as a whole.

cbslogosmallCobWEBs episode 4 is in the can!

This week Steven Hodson, Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins and myself took on, as usual, a lot of subjects. I return to my opinionated self this week as I’m not dealing with tornadoes or computers.

- Should Valleywag take up vetting political appointments?

- The FTC wants to make life for bloggers a LOT tougher and more annoying.  We, of course, don’t agree.

- Hulu will finally be shown in a country outside of the USA… but it’s only England so far.

- We lost an advertiser this week when they learned of our network name.  We made them “umcomfortable”.  Grow a pair.

- Twitter has a business model!… maybe… sorta… kinda… huh?

As always, I make a joke about Canada.  Thank goodness Steven has a sense of humor.
