A little while back I made a post about having joined the website SeeJackShop.com as a writer. Well, I’m still there, but now I can announce I have also joined the staff of Tech.Blorge.com. You can check out my very first post here, it’s about the new BlackBerry 8820 that was just announced. (I want this SO bad)
This is going to be a daily gig, but the pieces are fairly short, so it shouldn’t be much of a strain. I am also in talks with another site that I just sent a sample piece to. If I get that one, I’m going to stop looking around as I think three sites will be enough work on top of my day job!
I have to admit I am a little shocked at how well this has fallen together. I’ve been looking for a little less than a month for professional writing jobs, and I’ve landed two for sure. Color me surprised.
And, by the way, Shari asked me in her comments if these were “real jobs” where I am actually handed money… yes… they are.
Well, my pursuit of professional writing has paid off. You can find me fairly soon at SeeJackShop.com. This is one of several places I have applied to, and hopefully it won’t be the only one to hire me. I’ll be pointing out times I post over there, but they won’t count towards my daily post quota. (I could hear you all worrying)
I’ve mentioned in the past that I used to be a magazine writer, but I’m not sure I’ve ever mentioned most of the articles were about toys and action figures. I’m considered an expert on boy’s toys lines from the 1980′s and early 1990′s, and I know more about toys than most people really should. I still keep up on what’s coming out, but not as closely as I used to, but then I saw something I just had to write about… The Meat.
One of my employees sells current toys on eBay and he thought he would share one of them with me to see my reaction. It’s from the current Rocky toy line by Jakks Pacific, which, for the most part is just doing all the characters you would expect, but who would ever expect the side of beef Rocky would punch for practice?
In the package
Oh look, it comes with a bloody work smock!
The tale of The Meat
The sticker from the front of the package… is disturbing
Who thought this was a good idea? If you want to release something like this, you package it with a figure, not by itself! I mean, obviously this is directed at the adult collector instead of at kids, but who goes “You know what I wish I had a toy of? The Meat.”
Suddenly I’m glad I no longer write price guides, for I would have to type in “The Meat”… and assign it a value…
Yes… my grammar sucks. Read any blog entry, you’ll notice.
My sentence structure is abysmal.
However, I have had a dream since I was four years old… to write a novel. I started this week writing the character breakdowns… I have the plot in my head… I’m worried about length, I may need to scale down the overall story. I have no clue how to successful sell a novel, but it’s something I have to do for my own sanity. If I don’t just sit down and do it at some point, I’ll never know if it was even possible.
Sadly I can’t give any hints to what it is about, what the characters are like, nothing, as I have not copyrighted anything, so putting it out for web consumption would be stupid of me. And even talking about it is probably silly, because I am sure a year from now, someone will ask me “How’s that novel going?” and I will cry like a little girl…
Was that too much info?
So… we will see how this goes, and I am crossing my fingers and hope I can actually pull something together worth reading.
